This month, REX is helping home buyers by making their lives a little simpler. Moving can be the most stressful part of buying a new home.
Even with our help, you’re still going to want to make sure you streamline your move as much as possible.
Pack plates vertically, they will be less likely to break
No matter how big you write “FRAGILE” on the side of your moving boxes, inevitably, something always seems to break en route. Well, if you stack your plates vertically (like vinyl records) did you know they are less likely to shatter?
To make them even more secure, put a disposable styrofoam plate in between each breakable plate.
Use toilet paper rolls to organize your cords
This is genius. Every time you pack up electric cords, aren’t you amazed how tangled they got when it’s time to unpack? Well, put individual cords in empty toilet paper rolls so they won’t get jumbled up together. That way you can unpack them one at a time instead of in a big giant ball.
Cut handle holes into cardboard boxes
Those cheap cardboard boxes you buy at the hardware store, typically don’t have handles. So, do it yourself! Cut handle holes in the sides so that moving heavy boxes is a bit more comfortable and manageable.
Take a photo of all electronics
Ever unhooked all the wires behind your TV, only to immediately realize you have no clue how or where to put them all back? Whip out your phone, take a picture, THEN unhook everything. Then, when you’re at your new place, it’s just plug and play.
A rubber band can help you avoid damage to walls
When removing nails from walls, the last thing you want to do is make the damage even worse. Don’t let one tiny nail hole turn into a scuffed up wall.
Wrap a rubber band around the head of a hammer, so that way when you pry out the nail, the hammer won’t scratch up the surrounding area.
Color code labels on every box
Labeling is great…but color-coded labels are even better. Assign each room of your house color, so that way when you unpack you won’t have to read your chicken-scratch handwriting to figure out what box goes in what room.
